.com.bd vs .bd vs .com: Which Domain Should a Bangladeshi Business Use?

Choosing a domain extension is one of the first decisions for a Bangladeshi business website. The three common choices are .com, .com.bd and .bd. Each has real trade-offs in price, paperwork, trust and speed of activation.

When .com is the right choice

• You sell or plan to sell outside Bangladesh
• You need the website live today (no document checks)
• Your brand name is available as .com
• You do not have a trade licence yet

When .com.bd is the right choice

• You are a registered Bangladeshi business with a trade licence
• Your customers are in Bangladesh and you want a clearly local address
• The .com version of your name is taken
• You want the lowest yearly registry cost

When .bd is the right choice

• You want a short, direct name like brand.bd
• You are an individual or a brand that wants a Bangladeshi identity without the ".com" part
• You are fine with document checks and a few days' wait

SEO: does the extension matter?

Google treats country-code domains like .bd and .com.bd as targeting Bangladesh, which can help local relevance. A .com can rank just as well in Bangladesh if the content, links and Search Console setup target Bangladeshi users. For rankings, content quality and backlinks matter far more than the extension.

Email and trust

All three work the same for professional email (you@yourbrand.com or you@yourbrand.com.bd). Choose the one your customers will remember and type correctly. See business email price and Google Workspace vs cPanel email.

A simple rule

1. Get the .com if it is available for your brand; it is instant and globally familiar.
2. Add the .com.bd (or .bd) if you are a Bangladeshi business, to protect the name and show a local identity.
3. Point the second domain to the first, so both reach the same website.

If the .com is taken, use .com.bd as your main domain.

Bottom line

.com is fastest and most familiar, .com.bd is the cheapest and most clearly Bangladeshi for registered businesses, and .bd gives short names with a local identity. Many businesses register two and point one to the other.

সাধারণ জিজ্ঞাসা (FAQ)

Is .com.bd or .com better for a Bangladeshi business?

.com is easier to remember internationally and activates instantly. .com.bd signals a registered Bangladeshi business and costs less at the registry, but needs documents. Many businesses use .com as the main site and also register the .com.bd to protect the brand.

Does a .bd domain help SEO in Bangladesh?

A country-code domain tells Google the site targets Bangladesh, which can help local relevance. A .com can target Bangladesh too through content, Google Business Profile and Search Console settings. Content and links matter far more than the extension.

What documents do I need for .com.bd?

Usually a trade licence and the NID of the authorised person, and the name should match the business. A .bd for an individual usually needs an NID.

How fast does each domain activate?

.com activates within minutes after payment. .com.bd and .bd are verified manually by BTCL and usually take a few working days.

Which is cheapest?

At the registry, .com.bd is the cheapest after BTCL's January 2026 fee cut (৳700/year registration). FlexoHost's first-year prices are ৳750 for .com.bd, ৳1,350 for .bd and ৳1,650 for .com.

Should I register more than one?

If budget allows, yes. Registering your name in .com and .com.bd (or .bd) stops others from using it and lets customers reach you whichever they type.
